The Origin of the Daleks

Even the Time Lords couldn’t stop the rise of these evil mutants!

On the planet Skaro, the Kaleds and Thals were at war for a thousand years, and chemical weapons were causing mutations. Kaled chief mutated, so he designed a vehicle to carry them – the “Mark Three Travel Machine”. He renamed it with an anagram: Kaled became Dalek. He then worked on the Dalek embryos, giving them no sense of right or wrong, and removing nearly all their emotions – so they could become the supreme beings in the universe.

When the Fourth doctor had the chance to stop the Daleks’ Creation, he couldn’t bring himself to destroy them as he knew that some good must come out of their evil; after all, many races would unite in their struggle against the monsters. He chose instead to delay their development by trapping them in their city, setting back the rise of the Daleks by 1,000 years.
