The leader of a criminal gang whose members could convert themselves into plasmic energy, the Wire took control of the major cities on its home world of Hermethica. Once captured, the Wire escaped while being executed for its crimes. Using the communications device belonging to one of its executioners, the Wire transmitted itself to Earth, specifically to Muswell Hill, north London, in 1953 – where it began a new reign of terror. Concealing itself in television signals, it jumped from one TV to another, feeding off the electrical energy of the brains of those watching. Its victims were left mindless and faceless – it even took Rose Tyler’s face! The Wire’s grand plan was to feat on the millions of people who watched the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, so the cunning criminal disguised itself as a friendly TV continuity announcer, until her plans were foiled by the Doctor.
